The Access to Achievement Coordinator position will coordinate Accessibility and Testing Services; serve as the primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) diagnosis; collaborate with the Student Success Center and with faculty and staff to ensure students with disabilities receive approved accommodations; interview students and/or parents to establish interests and goals to create a person-centered plan; present options based on student interests using written materials, tours, and meetings with program coordinators/directors and division deans. These options include College and Career Readiness (CCR), Continuing Education/Workforce Development, or Curriculum programs. The position will assist with the development of career pathways as needed. This position will report to the Associate Vice President of Student Services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate Accessibility and Testing Services and serve as the primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) diagnosis.
  • Collaborate with the Student Success Center and faculty and staff to ensure students with disabilities receive approved accommodations.
  • Interview students and/or parents to establish interests and goals to create a person-centered plan; present options based on student interests using written materials, tours, and meetings with program coordinators/directors or division deans. These options include College and Career Readiness (CCR), Continuing Education/Workforce Development, or Curriculum programs.
  • Assist with the development of career pathways as needed.
  • Guide a student in the application process, if necessary.
  • Refer students, as needed, to other services as appropriate (Counseling, Student Support Services, WIOA, Tutoring, etc.).
  • Schedule bi-weekly follow-ups and check-ins with students to monitor progress and provide support.
  • Monitor and track student performance using Watermark and follow up with instructors as appropriate.
  • Continue follow-up with students six months after separation from the college's services or program.
  • As requested, create and submit reports to the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS).
  • Attend recruitment events as needed to promote college programs and resources.
  • Serve as a liaison with Continuing Education/Workforce Development, community agencies, and local employers to assist students in securing employment opportunities.
  • Assist students with receiving and understanding information regarding campus events and other opportunities.
  • Advocate for inclusion of students in all aspects of college and campus life.
  • Plan and assist with coordinating the IDD program at the College.
  • Participate in all professional development and other meetings as required by North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and James Sprunt Community College.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge in the areas of testing administration; to include assessments, scoring, and academic placement.
  • Knowledge in academic counseling relating to individual education plans and personal counseling and referral.
  • Knowledge in assisting students with disabilities (American Disabilities Act).
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speech and writing.
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and analyze problems.
  • Ability to take ownership and utilize constructive feedback.
  • Must be punctual, professional, and ethically conduct oneself.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work respectfully within a team environment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Skills

Required: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Education, Special Education, or a related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Counseling with emphasis on disability services. Bilingual; Career Readiness Certificate (CRC).

Experience

Required: Some experience in academic counseling, accessibility, and testing administration.

Preferred: Considerable experience in academic and personal counseling and disability services as well as testing administration.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus. May require travel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
