GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

The Vice President of Instruction and Student Engagement serves as the chief academic, academic support, and student engagement officer; provides vision and leadership collaboratively with the executive leadership team in the accomplishment of the College’s Strategic Plan; works collaboratively with the direct reports to provide a focus on student learning, support, and success; fosters an environment of continued innovation and quality instruction and academic and student support; develops and manages assigned budgets; and provide highly complex and responsible administrative assistance to the President and Board of Trustees. Currently oversees the planning, direction, and administration of the following: Dean, Arts and Sciences; Dean, Workforce and Public Service; Dean, Health Professions; Dean, Students; Director, Educational Partnerships; Director, Library Services; and Director, Center for Teaching and Learning.

NOTE: This is a security-sensitive position, and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.


SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: (1) Organizational and leadership practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of instructional, student engagement, and academic support programs, policies, and operational needs; (2) Student success models and pathway development;(3) Budget development, administration, finance and fiscal planning; (4) Pertinent Federal, State and college laws, rules, and regulations; (5) Use of technology to support teaching and learning and student engagement. Ability to: (6) Provide leadership to and coordinate the activities and operations of the instructional, student engagement, and academic support programs;(7) Understand House Bill 8 from the 88th Legislative Session and ability to implement appropriate Workforce short- and long-term programs; (8) Provide professional administrative support to the college President; (9) Collaborate with the executive leadership team to lead the college; (10) Lead the faculty and staff in a positive and innovative way;(11) Build a culture of data-informed decision-making; (12) Promote student engagement and success; (13) Build consensus in a highly collegial environment with energy, vision, and integrity; (14) Prepare and administer a large and complex budget; (15) Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals; (16) Identify, supervise, train, and evaluate personnel; (17) Develop, interpret, and apply college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; (18) Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; (19) Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; (20) Represent college to community in support of the President; and (21) collaborate with President’s Office to lead, build, or organize international experiences for students.

 


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: An earned Doctorate from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of higher education experience, preferably in a community college, including teaching and/or instructional leadership or equivalent experience.

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Experience with pathways from K-12, including early college and dual enrollment; articulation for successful transfer and completion, working with four-year University Center partners, commitment to and experience with implementing innovative programs targeted for holistic student success, understanding of House Bill 8 from the 88th Legislative Session; experience using data-informed decision-making for program improvement; experience with developing new programs (e.g., Workforce, micro-credentials and non-credit credentials); experience with a variety of instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-line, blended, hyflex, and face to face)experience evaluating existing programs for viability and improvement as well as experience in assessing student learning, involvement in institutional or program accreditation.
